Rust (2013)
What is it?

This game was originally created to mimic the DayZ mod for
Arma 2. It also has certain elements from Minecraft. Rust was released on Steam
for early access since December 11, 2013. It has been on Steam’s Early Access
program since then. The objective of the game is to survive by gathering
resources or stealing them from other players. Players will also need to learn
how to craft certain items that are in the game. If a player has not learned an
item they may also learn how to craft it by finding a blue print. The Player
can also discover the item they wish to craft in order to learn how to make it.
When the game was first released it had zombies in the
world. However, they have now been replaced by bears and wolves. There are also
other animals such as deer, horses, and pigs. There are also air drops that
players to get supplies from. If a player goes for an air drop they would have
to fight other players to get the loot that is in the air drop. However, you
may also get air drop signals so that you would be able to get an air drop at a
certain location.
Technological Innovations
Players have characters that are of different races which
has not been seen on other survival games.
Limitations
The game is still in early access. This means that there are
still various bugs and glitches that need to be fixed. It is also being
constantly updated to try to fix various bugs and glitches. These updates also
add new elements to the game as well. However, with all the updates players
would need to rebuild their bases and need to learn all their craftables again.
Personal Experience
Some of my friends said I should get this game as it is a
style of game that I enjoy playing. However, there were some people in the TeamSpeak
at the time that tried to argue that I wouldn’t like this game. I mean I should
be able to decide what games I like and what games I don’t. Well I ended up
buying the game and I enjoyed it.
When I got the game it was still on the
legacy version and now I also run a server that runs on the newest version of
the game which is experimental. It can be quite a pain to run a Rust server
because of the updates. This is because of all the plugins that are on the
server may or may not break with every update. So servers will need to be
maintained on a daily basis. It is not like other games where servers pretty
much run themselves.
This game is a lot of fun with a group of friends. For
example, in our group we have a builder, gatherers, and hunters. The builder’s
job is to build the base. Gatherers will gather supplies such as building
materials, ammunition, guns, medical supplies and food. Hunters will protect
the group as well as gather food for the group.
